Tasting Note
Wine Enthusiast 93, Anna-Christina Cabrales
Fresh wild berry aromas are framed by clove and dried thyme stems in this wine. It demonstrates balance among acidity, texture and ripeness making it easy to enjoy. The palate offers Gala apple, fresh strawberry and enough oak spice, adding depth. For those who enjoy New World wines, this is a great gateway option into the region.
Winemaking
The 2018 vintage from Côte Chalonnaise in Burgundy, France, showcases 100% Chardonnay grapes characterized by richness and great maturity, offering excellent ageing potential. Following beneficial rain in late August, the harvest yielded both abundant and high-quality fruit, resulting in wines that, shortly after bottling, reveal a balance of ripe fruit richness and subtle toasted, mineral notes typical of exceptional Chardonnay. The terroir, a south-east facing clay-limestone slope overlooking Saint-Martin sous Montaigu, promotes early grape maturity, while organic viticultural practices ensure healthy vine growth. The grapes are mechanically harvested and undergo traditional Burgundy fermentation in barrels, followed by 10 months ageing in oak barrels and concrete eggs, further enhancing their complexity.
Winery
Acquired by the Picard family in 1991, the Voarick estate is renowned for its diverse soils across 68 hectares in the Mercurey and Givry appellations, primarily located near the winery between Saint-Martin-sous-Montaigu and Mercurey.
The estate's newly renovated wine cellars, completed between 2018 and 2020, facilitate precise expression of the unique characteristics of its varied parcels. The meticulous ‘vigneron’ approach, requiring block-by-block attention, enables the production of wines with distinct aromatic and tannic complexities.
Voarick estate wines are characterized by charm, body, accessibility, and precision.
