2020 rating:Vinous 95, Neal Martin
"The 2020 Meursault Les Charmes ler Cru veers strongly towards the tropical side of the spectrum, with touches of passion fruit and light pineapple, though here I am seeking more mineralité. The palate is balanced with pleasing edginess. Plenty of energy is coiled up in this Meursault, lightly spiced with walnut and lanolin towards the complex finish. The more I am acquainted with this Meursault, the more I am drawn towards its 'charm (e)s. Tasted blind at the annual Burgest tasting. Drinking Window: 2026 - 2050"

2019 rating:Wine Advocate 93, William Kelley
"The 2019 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes is also very good, revealing aromas of orange oil, pear, white flower and toasted hazelnuts. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and nicely concentrated, with tangy acids and chalky structure, it concludes with a long, penetrating finish.Drink Date: 2023 - 2039"

2017 rating:Wine Advocate 93-95, William Kelley
"The king of the cellar chez Coche this year is the 2017 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes, a beautiful wine that unfurls in the glass with scents of white peach, oatmeal, spring flowers and subtle spices. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and satiny, with a deep, concentrated core, lovely purity and a bright, precise finish. This is a classic in the making that will reward cellaring."

Winery

Fabien Coche, a fourth-generation vigneron, took over the domain from his father in 2005, rebranding the domaine's name as Fabien Coche.

The Coche family has deep roots in Burgundy;  Fabien's modest winemaking approach and preference for staying out of the spotlight have maintained his low profile.

He farms organically because of the health of those working in the vineyard. After lots of testing, he increasingly employs large oak formats to reduce oxidation and transitioning to Diam “Origine” corks which are made with beeswax to ensure consistent ageing.
