Tasting Note
Wine Advocate 91
Elegant and even airy aromas of ripe red currant, lavender and soft floral nuances are trimmed in just enough wood to mention. The delicious, intense and attractively textured medium weight flavors possess a caressing mid-palate that contrasts somewhat with the youthfully austere finish that is more structured than it usually is as this will need all of a decade to arrive at its peak though it should be reasonably approachable after only 5ish years. Good stuff and worth a look.
Winemaking
Morey St Denis 1er cru Aux Charmes
Since 2014 these parcels are farmed by the domaine. Aux Charmes : 0,22 ha and Les Blanchards : 0,02 ha. Total 0.24 ha
The soil is mainly limestone from the Bajocian period, giving charming fruit driven and round wines.
25% whole cluster, cold macerated for 5 days and fermented with indigenous yeast. Two punch downs and pump overs per day. The wine ages from 12 months in 50% new french oak from a mix of coopers.
Organic
Winery
Founded in 1865 domaine Tortochot currently farms 11 hectares of vines in 3 appellations, with most of the vineyards acquired by Gabriel Tortochot in the early 20th century.
Most of the wines in the past were sold to Maison Joseph Drouhin, but with the arrival of Chantal Tortochot in1997 the domaine started to bottle all its wines. In 2013 the domaine finalized conversion to organic viticulture and is now ECO Certified.
