Alvaro Palacios studied enology in Bordeaux, while working under JP Moueix at Petrus. The winemaking technique that he applies in the production of his wines is mostly emulated from his work at Petrus.
In 1980's Alvaro came across abandoned ancient vineyards in Priorat, mostly located in steep terraces. After much searching in 1993 he located a northeast facing Garnacha vineyard planted between 1900 and 1940 in well drained schist soils. The vineyards was named L'Ermita for the small Chapel that was built on top of that hill.
The 2016 blend is: 85% Garnacha, 14% Cariñena and 1% white grapes (Garnacha Blanca, Macabeo and Pedro Ximenes). Matured for 16 months in 100% new French oak barriques.
Around 2000 bottles produced.
