Tasting Note
Wine Advocate 94-96
From barrel, the 2012 Clos de Vougeot Cuvee Vieilles Vignes has one of my favourite bouquets with wonderful vibrancy, mineralite and tension. The palate has a beguiling sense of symmetry and tension, blessed with precocious, beautifully aligned mineral-rich black and red fruit towards the finish. One of the best Clos de Vougeot this year
Winemaking
Winery
Domaine Ponsot traces its roots back to William Ponsot in 1872, who expanded the estate with prestigious vineyards like Clos des Monts Luisants and Clos de La Roche. Hippolyte Ponsot, William's successor, pioneered bottling and exportation, notably to the US, and played a key role in Burgundy's AOC system in the 1930s.
Through generations, the estate grew, focusing on innovations such as estate bottling and clonal selection. Laurent Ponsot's leadership saw further expansion and a commitment to natural winemaking practices. Today, the vineyards, with an average age exceeding 50 years, yield wines known for their power, depth, and longevity, evolving into exquisite, harmonious grand crus over time.
