Tasting Note

Burghound 91-94     Allen Meadows

A discreetly perfumed and layered nose reflects notes of both red and dark berries along with subtle spice and floral elements. The succulent, rich and seductively textured middleweight flavors possess evident minerality and focused power while delivering even better depth and persistence on the lightly austere and beautifully balanced finale. This is lovely and a wine that should also age gracefully.

Winery

Jean-Michel Guillon, originally from Paris, switched to winemaking in Gevrey-Chambertin after retiring from aeronautics in 1980. Known for his fondness for new oak barrels, he humorously calls himself "the biggest oak barrel consumer" in the area.

He established a prestigious Domaine with support from friends like Rene Galland and the renowned Henri Jayer. Their wines, spanning esteemed appellations such as Mazis-Chambertin and Clos de Vougeot, reflect a distinct Pinot Noir style praised by critics like Allen Meadows.

In 2020, Jean-Michel Guillon was elected as "Winemaker of the Year 2020" by Guide Hachette (Wine Guide Book)
