After studying oenology at the University of Tarrogana, Ester Nin moved to Priorat and in 2003 bought a 1.5ha prcel of old vines in Mas D'En Caçador, one of the highest vineyards in the region at 650m of altitude.
A trained oenologist Carles Ortiz left Barcelona to grown grapes, he purchased a 5ha of old vines of Grenache and Carignan, restored it and started selling his grapes.
Ester Nin and Carles Ortiz meet and developed a relationship that led to the creating of the Nin-Ortiz Estate.
In 2007 they have produced their first vintage together under the label Familia Nin-Ortiz.
They farm using exclusively organically materials, biodynamic infusions and make their own compost. All the work is manual and fermentations are natural, taking place in neutral vessels such as foudre, demi-muid or amphorae, where the wines are also aged.
Garnatxes en Amfora is made from 100% Grenache, hand harvested, destemmed, natural yeast fermentation in stainless steel tanks and 4 weeks of maceration. Matured in 7 months in 700-1000L amphorae, no SO2 until bottling. Organic & Biodynamic
