Tasting Note

Wine Advocate 94, William Kelley

The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Blanchots Dessus is another of the portfolio's highlights. Mingling aromas of pear, orange oil and confit citrus with hints of clear honey, white flowers, fresh pastry and hazelnuts, it's full-bodied, satiny and ample, with an enveloping core of fruit, lively acids and a sensual, seamless profile. This is one of the most dramatic wines in the range. Drink Date: 2023 - 2050

Vinous 90-92, Neal Martin

The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Blanchot-Dessus ler Cru comes from the estate's own parcel of 45-year-old vines. This has a focused bouquet with a notch more mineralité compared to the La Romanée. The palate is well balanced, presenting lime, apricot and light ginger notes on the entry. There is good weight on the palate and fine salinity. Fresh and marine-influenced with a light tang of ginger perking up the finish. Enjoy this well-crafted Chassagne over the next 15 years. Drinking Window: 2022 - 2035

Winery

Since began in 1980 in Santenay, Vincent Girardin has tried all of the modern vinification techniques. In 2003, working with his winemaker Eric Germain, he came to the conclusion that the least possible intervention during the vinification process was the best way to reveal the complexity and individual characteristics of each of Burgundy's terroirs. Eric Germain continues to uphold this philosophy.
Winemaking additives have been abandoned and currently SO2 and copper are the only products still used. We have drastically reduced the proportion of new barrels used during maturing, in order to preserve the character of each terroir.
In parallel, for the Grandes Cuvées, we have extended the maturing periods, in order to give our wines time to open up and express the full potential of their terroir of origin.
