Xanadu was established by Dr John Lagan, an Irishman who arrived in Margaret River in 1968 with his wife Eithne. Less than a decade on in 1977, the couple planted their first vines, establishing one of the region’s earliest vineyards.
Over the last 40 years there has been major investment in modern winemaking technology. Still a family owned and operated winery.
88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 5% Malbec.
60% of the frui was sourced from Grower vineyards in Margaret River, with 40% being Estate-grown fruit from the Wallcliffe.
Fruit was crushed/destemmed and small fermented in small batches, in a combination of static and open fermenter. Fermentation takes 7-8 days at 24 – 26°C.
After fermentation about 25% of the components experienced a period of extended maceration, being left on skins for 4 weeks before a very gentle pressing.
MLF takes place in a combination of tank and barrel. The wine was matured for 14 months in French oak (40% new barriques) before the blend was assembled.
